Abandoned cell block at Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia, PA (US). Opened in 1829, and dubbed the "Pennsylvania System" or Separate system, originated and encouraged solitary confinement as a form of rehabilitation. The prison was closed and abandoned in 1971, now operates as a museum and historic site.
